There are so, so many reasons NOT to do this. I even got vertigo watching this video - it ranks right up there with the insane wingsuit guy who flies down a mountain at an altitude of about 20 feet from a helicopter.

The only thing different about this is that he’s got wheels, and not a cushion of low pressure. I can’t imagine what was going through the minds of the folks he passes at the end.

This is a great senior prank - the school has a building on both sides of the road, and a tunnel that joins the two that runs below the road.

The result? A constant line of students crossing the road, for fifteen minutes.

This seemed like an interesting video, and it is. It’s an instructable about how to take a webcam and modify it to take sweet looking long-exposure photos through a telescope.

Something all of us can aspire to, as far as I am concerned.

Unfortunately, this fellow is operating about nine levels higher on the DIY scale than I do . Despite this, I found myself glued to the extremely verbose and acronym-ridden commentary, as he delved into the intricacies of soldering tiny wires and curing epoxy…

If you survive the five minutes this video montage lasts, you are as awesome as me, except for the fact that you are not me, which in the end makes you less awesome than me, and that is something you will just have to live with.

I had a hard time visualizing the 4th dimension. Now, you too can rock right along to the 10th dimension.

Each August for the past decade, as faculty prepare for the academic year, Beloit College in Wisconsin has released the Beloit College Mindset List. Its 70 items provide a look at the cultural touchstones that have shaped the lives of today’s first-year students, most of them born in 1989.

Reading the list is a fantastic way to feel either extremely hip or extremely old. Personally, it made me feel like that sprightly gentleman to the left. I like to call it wizened.

As a service to the public, I have pared the list down to a bare fifteen, each which amused or terrified me enough to escape deletion. May the subtle message of their whole shake your foundations and beliefs.

For the Class of 2011:

• Humvees, minus the artillery, have always been available to the public.
• They never “rolled down” a car window.
• Pete Rose has never played baseball.
• Off the hook” has never had anything to do with a telephone.
• Wal-Mart has always been a larger retailer than Sears and has always employed more workers than GM.
• They were too young to understand Judas Priest’s subliminal messages.
• They were introduced to Jack Nicholson as “The Joker.”
• Stadiums, rock tours and sporting events have always had corporate names.
• Fox has always been a major network.
• They learned about JFK from Oliver Stone and Malcolm X from Spike Lee.
• Microbreweries have always been ubiquitous.
• Tiananmen Square is a 2008 Olympics venue, not the scene of a massacre.
• MTV has never featured music videos.
• Avatars have nothing to do with Hindu deities.
• The World Wide Web has been an online tool since they were born.

This sounds incredibly nerdy, and it is to a degree, but even as a programmer who rarely dabbles in the black arts of design, this image manipulation presentation is pretty darn amazing.

I wonder if and when this will make it to some RFC?
